Manners Reduced Penetration for Custom Needle/Introducer Applications - A start-up surgical instrument company was unable to get a custom needle/introducer to properly penetrate tissue during common surgery. The mechanical design of the device requires a special needle to penetrate tissue with minimal deflection and tissue damage to aid the healing process.

The needles for the initial production batches that handle the most critical functions of the new device are made in-house in the model shop, but these needles lack the sharpness required for the wound closure device to work properly.

Manners was contacted to evaluate the needle and get the device running as soon as possible. Using rapid prototyping capabilities, new needles were produced using another edge-generating process. The new process includes precision grinding of the tip and final finishing using a new proprietary electrochemical process.
